Samui has many beautiful beaches on the island. The most famous are Chaweng and Lamai beaches which lie on the east of the island.
Chaweng Beach
Chaweng Beach is the most famous and longest beach of Koh Samui. It is located on the east side of the island. The beach is approximately 7 kilometers long, with powdery white sand and sparkling clear water. This beautiful beach is filled up with tourists swimming and sunbathing on a daily basis.
One of the highlight of the beach is it is close to exquisite coral reefs site as well as two beautiful islands. The smaller of the islands can easily be accessed by walking through the shallow waters. The bigger of the islands provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy snorkeling and kayaking.
How to get there: Chaweng is a few minutes' ride south from Samui Airport. If you book a taxi at the airport transport desk, it will cost 400 Baht. A shared van (usually requiring 5 passengers before it will depart) will cost 120 Baht per person. Taxi drivers rarely use taxi meters here. If you decide not to use the booking desk, negotiate the fare in advance with the taxi driver. It should cost from 200 - 400 Baht.
Lamai Beach
Lamai Beach is smaller than Chaweng Beach. It is located 10 Km south of Chaweng on the east coast. It is quieter and less bustling than the buzzing Chaweng, but still with plenty of accommodation, dining and shopping options to be found, and some great spas and tourist sites to explore. And for those who enjoy playing in the waves, there is no reef protecting this bay, so the sea is a little rougher.
How to get there: Songteaws transfers between Lamai Beach and Samui Airport cost about 150 Baht per person; a private taxi charter costs around 300-400 baht. Songteaws from the ferry terminal (normally) sets you back 60 Baht.
